This week in ISM was quite eventful. On Wednesday, October 4th we attended the business symposium at Independence High School. The day was filled with a multitude of stations aimed towards helping students with professional networking skills, college admission tips, and advice from Independent Study and Mentorship alumni. In my opinion, the most beneficial aspects were the speech from Mr. Wysong, owner of Tumbleweed Textiles, and conducting interviews with the professionals. In his speech, Mr. Wysong discussed the importance of learning to brand ourselves as young adults. He stressed the fact that we must set goals, discover our passions, and make sure our actions line up with our moral beliefs. During the interviews, I talked with a woman who gave me great interview tips as she often interviewed individuals fresh out of college to be potentially hired for her company. In addition to this, I also talked with a woman who was in charge of international marketing for the Fortune 500 corporation Yum! (operates KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and WingStreet.)

She was extremely honest and even offered to give me contacts for informational interviews or even internships in the future. I also went to my fourth informational interview with Jenneken Beernink, who is the manager of corporate partnership services for the Dallas Cowboys. It went extremely well and many of the components she was explaining about her career such as building relationships, planning events, and having creative freedom sounded like something I would find great interest in.
