ABOUT ISM

Independent Study and Mentorship is a rigorous, challenging course offered at Frisco ISD high schools. This program is designed for academically gifted and high achieving students who are juniors or seniors.

In order to be selected to participate in this program, students must undergo an application process consisting of a written application, recommendation letters for consideration, and an interview. Once selected, students then research the topic of their choice and begin conducting informational interviews in order to select a mentor. The mentor of choice will be shadowed as the year goes on, allowing the student to have involvement in a potential career field with hands-on experiences. In this time, the student becomes more confident in their abilities to be involved in engaging conversations in a work environment as well as creating original research and product development. The connections and possibilities provided by ISM are endless.

This course is rightfully deemed as a privilege as it enables individuals to gain real world exposure before they have graduated high school. The Independent Study and Mentorship program has a multitude of advantages including improving public speaking and presentations, interviewing skills, and business and social etiquette.
